Frequently asked questions

Where are my notes saved?
In your own browser, on this device. Close the page and they will still be here when you come back. They never go anywhere else.
Why three kinds of note?
Because you do not write them for the same reason. A quote belongs to the author and you keep the page so you can go back to it; an idea is yours, it came to you while reading; a word is vocabulary. Kept apart, you can reread only the quotes six months later — which is what you actually open a notebook for.
Can I take my notes out of here?
Yes. Every book downloads as a Markdown file, sorted by kind of note, and that opens in any text editor, in Notion, in Obsidian or in Word.
Will I see my notebook on another device?
Not yet: it lives in this browser only. When accounts arrive, it will follow you. In the meantime, download what you would hate to lose.
What if I clear my browser data?
The notebook goes with it: it lives in that storage. It is the same as with the rest of our tools, and the reason the download button is there.
Does the photo I take get uploaded anywhere?
No. The text reader downloads into your browser the first time you tap "Photo of the page" and works in there from then on, offline. The photo never leaves your device and is not stored: all that stays is the text it recognised, inside the note. Dictation uses your browser’s own speech recognition.
