Frequently asked questions

What do you do in Valdorne?
You walk it. That is the honest answer: it is a world to explore, not a game with quests or a score. There is a castle, a walled city, a harbour, a monastery, a wizard's tower, a great citadel, a mine, an ancient temple and eighteen more places, joined by roads with villagers walking them. Crossing the island on foot takes about three minutes; on a horse, half that.
How do I move around?
WASD or the arrow keys to walk, Shift to run and Space to jump. Move the mouse and the view follows, no click needed; click to capture the pointer and Esc to release it. M opens the full map, and clicking a place on it takes you there. On a phone there is a joystick on the left and you drag on the right to look.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It is a single file that runs inside your browser, with no account and no server. The 3D uses WebGL, which every modern browser already has. Your character is remembered on this device.
Can I make my own character?
Yes, before you start: name, skin, hair, and then helmet, hood or hat, tunic, chainmail, doublet or breastplate, a short or long cape and a sword, an axe or a staff — each with its own colour. Drag on the character to turn them around and see the back.
Why does it look like that?
Because none of it is downloaded. There is not a single texture or 3D model in the file: every building, tree and villager is generated in code, the sky is drawn per time of day and even the footsteps are synthesised. That is what makes a whole island fit in one page that opens in a couple of seconds.
Can I play with friends?
Yes. In the main menu, create a room and share the link — or the five-letter code — and whoever opens it lands on the same island, with their own character and name over their head. You see each other walk in real time, and the map shows where the others are. There is no server of ours in between: the room only exists while someone is in it.
Can I buy things?
Yes. You start with 100 coins and find more scattered around the island; beating a giant pays fifty. Merchants in the villages, the harbour, the city and the Citadel sell torches you can plant anywhere or carry lit in your hand, and food. Three armourers sell swords, axes and staffs. There is a six-slot bar at the bottom: keys 1 to 6 pick what is in your hand, F uses it. And eat: after four minutes without food your health starts to drain slowly.

Free, no sign-up and no downloads. The whole island runs inside your browser.
